Review: Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes – Pre-Release

Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes (MToF) will be the first release of 2018!

This 256 pages tomb will be filled with lore, additional monsters some of who are named, and additional player options! The book sounds like it might be geared for high-level games (level 10+)

Following after Volo’s Guide to Monsters, this book will also feature a special edition cover only available at gaming stores, and apparently could be available as early as May 19th, with the full release scheduled May 29th, according to Wizards of the Coast.

Dungeons and Dragons editor, Jeremy Crawford Tweeted that he got the first copies from the printers on March 7th

Races for PC’s

• Gith, githyanki and githzerai
• plus some more options for elves and options for tieflings
• Shattercie: could be an elven sub-race.  Teleportation ability and resistance to necrotic damage at 3rd level

Named Monsters

MToF is meant to have at least half the monsters listed to be challenge rating 10+. Here are some examples:

• the devil Asmodeus.
• The Raven Queen, and the Shattercane. Was once an Elvin Queen before Lolth
• The Lady of Pain of Sigel. Unconfirmed, but was mentioned by Jeremy Crawford in an interview about Tome of Foes
• Astral Dreadnaught: think Tarrasque of the Astral Plane [Update]

With Modrons in the Monsters Manual, and MToF linked to having The Lady of Pain, when’s Planescape for 5th edition going to come out?

March 13th at GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), the WotC Seminar revealed a little too much information and ended up letting out that Spelljammer has been talked about enough to have a project board. Hippos in space!
