Review: D&D5e 3rd Party Content Compatibility 2: Everyday Heroes
See Review: D&D5e 3rd Party Content Compatibility (2023) for previous reviews.
Everyday Heroes (2024) by Evil Genius Games
A 5e reimagine of d20 Modern (2006). There are 6 Archetypes (based off primary attribute) with 3-4 classes for each Archetype (Example: Strong Heroes: Brawler, Heavy Gunner, MMA Fighter). Basically your key ability is your DnD5e Class, and your Class is your DnD5e Archetype.
Everyone’s considered human, and there are two character background items to consider: Backgrounds and Professions. Both provide an ASI: ability score increate, skills, a feature, and equipment, all with modern (some fantastic) variety. There’s also modern equipment, guns, and vehicles (and rules).
Key Concepts: Modern world-building, Unique characters.
Core Compatibility: Everyday Heroes(EdH) at it’s core is the DnD5e SRD, and things will integrate with little issue. However, EdH has different damage types and may have a higher damage output at starting levels (d6 instead of d4’s). Yet firearms do the same or less damage then in the DMG (DMG shotgun 2d8 Piercing; EdH shotgun 2d6 Ballistic)
Impression: EdH is DnD5e Modern. Similar class structures, but with additional background/profession additions – all with a modern flair.
Evil Genius Games (EGG) also has a number of add-on modules and adventures based on a variety of action movies (Escape from New York, The Crow, Pacific Rim, etc.). I would love to join a game before running my own.
EGG also have a Everyday Heroes FoundryVTT Game System – which once again I would have preferred if they had created a module add-on to the existing DnD5e game system, or at least created a branch so existing modules/assets could be shared between EdH and DnD.
